About this deal

Designed to have a wide exposure latitude, it is marketed at anything from the casual user to the more prolific photographer. Keep an eye on the camera’s light meter, or use an external light meter if your camera doesn’t have one. The new packaging will say that the film is made in the USA, which is unlikely (but possible) to be produced by the rapidly downsizing Fujifilm paper factory .

Note: I’ve got my hands on the new film and will compare it to the classic Superia and Kodak UltraMax in an upcoming post. You can read more about Kodak UltraMax here, and read a comparison of UltraMax and Fuji Superia here. Even when enlarged, Ultra Max 400 Film delivers excellent sharpness and fine grain for crisp, clear pictures. The Ultramax 400 is Kodak’s cheaper – hard to use that term in this context – ISO400 color negative film.Instead, they recruit groups of people to pass judgements based on various samples and quantify those surveys for various magnification factors. If you consider that you need to spend money on SD cards, power, computer stuff, software licenses, external file storage, web storage and all the time you invest sitting in front of Lightroom I rhink digital is way more expensive as a single role of film. When the CP crew and I chose our desert island film (the film that we’d each shoot for the rest of our lives if we could only choose one) I picked Ektar, a high-saturation color film from Kodak’s fine Professional line. The Kodak UltraMax 400 is known for being Kodak’s general-purpose film for reliable colour and tone reproduction.

The Ultramax offers enough crispness to satisfy while being much better value than it's full of herself sister, Portra 400.Once you get the hang of using Kodak UltraMax 400, you can rest assured that you won’t need to look too hard to get more supplies. Im definitely a fan of Ektar as well but as much of my shooting is done for camera testing, the economy makes Ultramax a winner. It creates consistent results that make understanding and comparing the emulsion’s colour/contrast attributes possible.

I have shot truckloads of this film, and yes I reckon its a great all rounder – especially for anyone on a budget. It comes with a higher saturation than professional films with an aim at more attractive photographs for the consumer. WE HAVE BEEN PROVIDING PHOTO PROCESSING SERVICES SINCE 1983 AND HAVE THE EXPERIENCE, EQUIPMENT AND EXPERTISE TO GIVE YOU THE BEST QUALITY RESULTS ON TRADITIONAL, SILVER HALIDE PHOTOGRAPHIC PAPER (NOT INKJET!Its color rendition is true to life, less punchy and saturated than Fujifilm’s consumer-grade film Superia 400.
